It begins on December 24 with the famous market of “SANTURANTIKUY” which means Market or purchase of Santos, where many artisans of Cusco show their works of art, this is done in the Plaza de Armas of the city of Cusco, which opens exclusively for this important date.
In this fair, very varied crafts are sold alluding to the birth of the baby Jesus, for decoration purposes, from the smallest to the largest, of different materials such as wood, plaster, or wool, these works of art are typical with images of shepherds with indigenous or mestizo costumes.
Many local people and visitors from abroad come to buy these works of art or simply come to admire these wonderful exhibits and thus be able to take pictures to remember.
This traditional fair of “SANTURANTIKUY” was proclaimed cultural heritage of the Peruvian nation on September 22, 2009, for being one of the most striking cultural expressions that Catholicism has left in the Andean region of Cusco – Peru.
